April Showers and Easter Hope

You have no doubt heard “April showers bring May flowers,” but I’m wondering if we should change that saying around here to “April showers bring Many construction delays.” It is inevitable during a construction project that there will be lots of setbacks. It’s pouring rain even as I write this. We will not get back to worshipping in our Sanctuary by Easter, and that is ok. God is good and his timing is perfect. The Letter of James says, “Therefore be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. The farmer waits for the precious produce of the soil, being patient about it, until it gets the early and late rains.” It may take a few weeks longer than we originally thought to move back in, but we have counted the cost before we embarked on this construction project and trust that we are in capable hands. We also “do not grieve as those who have no hope.” We know the end of this story; we can already see the beautiful glimpses of what will become that are emerging. We still eagerly anticipate our re-opening just like we anticipate Easter this week. We do not fret like those who grieved did on that first Holy Saturday after Good Friday, not knowing whether the promised resurrection of Easter would take place. We know how that story ends- Christ rose from the grave, conquering sin and death. The same Spirit is at work bringing us rebirth as a church. We’re so close we can taste it, and it is as sweet as the chocolate Easter bunny you will put in your mouth on Sunday. Come celebrate new life with us this weekend! A little rain won’t dampen our hope as rebuilders, or as believers!
