EIFS

When it comes to construction, or any new project, there is always something to learn! Most recently, the rebuild committee has learned about EIFS which stands for Exterior Insulation and Finish Systems. EIFS is what now covers the surface of the exterior wall where the fire wall used to be. As the name implies, part of its purpose is to insulate. It provides excellent energy conservation and better thermal control than brick, stucco, or cement. It is fade resistant and won’t crack, yet is flexible enough to absorb building movement, which is a bonus with our hot and humid summers. The surface itself is resistance to dirt, mildew and mold; and can be cleaned with a garden hose. EIFS is one of the most water resistant exterior surfaces you can buy for a building. It prevents moisture from going where it’s not supposed to go so it also acts as a weather barrier. This reminds me of the role that faith plays as we weather the storms of life. Our faith offers us a durable surface on which to stand. I think we could make our own acronym for EIFS; we could call it Ever In Faith Surrounded. This is what we try to be as a body of faith and what we try to offer to our own community. Oh, and of course, EIFS is fire resistant - Kind of like us!
