Wind

We finally got our new A/C unit installed! This means the construction process can move swiftly from here on out because we can control how fast things like tile, cure. Here in south Texas you can’t meet in a building in the summer without A/C, you need a cool breeze. This reminds me of Jesus’ teaching about the Spirit, “The wind blows where it chooses, and you hear the sound of it, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.” Following the Spirit, Jesus says, is like following the wind, you don’t know where it comes from or where it is going, all you can do is trust that God is animating it. True, following the spirit may feel a bit like being blind folded at times, but the life of discipleship requires complete devotion. If you’re not listening for the wind, you could miss it. You could miss the God who is trying to create new life in you whether that be through prayer, the community of faith, reading the scriptures, or simply being still enough to ask questions and listen. You may not always see the Spirit at work, but you can feel its sweet breezes.
